These sessions are especially loved by children with autism, sensory sensitivities, or those who benefit from calm, structured environments.
Our Guided Connection Sessions are thoughtfully designed to create a calm, welcoming, and sensory-aware experience for children on the autism spectrum and other neurodivergent individuals.
These sessions focus on providing gentle, meaningful interactions with our miniature horses in a way that supports comfort, confidence, communication, and emotional regulation—always at each child’s own pace.
Please note: These sessions are enrichment-based experiences and are not clinical therapy services.
Jan Gibson is the co-founder of Mini Horse Moments in Nampa, Idaho, alongside her partner, Tegan Showers. Together, they create calm, structured, and flexible experiences with miniature horses designed especially for children and families—including those with sensory sensitivities and neurodivergent needs.
Jan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business, a Master’s degree in Human Resources, and brings over 25 years of professional experience. She has also spent more than 45 years in the equine world, showing both full-sized and miniature horses at a national level. This background gives her a deep understanding of horse behavior and how to create safe, positive interactions between horses and people.
Just as important, Jan understands that every child is different. Through both her professional experience and personal interactions, she has developed a genuine appreciation for the unique challenges neurodivergent and autistic individuals—and their families—may face.
At Mini Horse Moments, there is no pressure to participate in a certain way. Children are welcome to observe, take their time, or engage at their own pace. Whether a child is talkative, quiet, hesitant, or full of energy, they are met with patience, respect, and understanding.
While neither Jan nor Tegan are licensed therapists, they have intentionally created an environment that is calm, predictable, and supportive—where children can feel comfortable, families can relax, and meaningful connections can happen naturally.
These sessions are a great fit for children, teens, and families who are looking for a quieter, more flexible experience that respects each child’s unique needs and comfort level.
